Hi Everyone: welcome to the Heart of a Giant blog.
I have finally decided to take on the challenge. The challenge of sharing my life with a heart condition. It’s been quite a journey… It is actually impossible to put in words, as this is a dynamic story that is still unraveling. But, I will give it my best shot.
For those who don’t already know this, I was born with a heart condition known as left ventricle non-compaction cardiomyopathy or LVNC. I have been living with a much enlarged (giant) and weakening heart and at the risk of sudden death due to irregular heartbeats for a big part of my life.
I survived congestive heart failure (CHF) and recently got a left ventricle assist device (LVAD) pump implanted inside my chest to helps my heart function better. This pump system is an interim solution while I await a suitable donor heart.
Admittedly, it is quite a tall order. Fortunately, I have been endowed with the attitude of a giant, an incredible family, and great medical care teams. Thanks to all these good folks, I pull through. I am now doing well, at peace, getting stronger and happier, every day.
This blog chronicles my journey towards a heart transplant and what may come after. I would strive to keep you informed. But depending on the circumstances, I may not be able to at times. So, please check back often.
Thanks for your visit. I appreciate you.
